Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality products for building insulation, mechanical insulation, commercial roofing, and roof insulation, as well as fibers and nonwovens for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. JM’s products may not always be seen, but they are felt in markets including aerospace, automotive and transportation, appliance, commercial and residential construction, HVAC, pipe and equipment, filtration, waterproofing, building, flooring, interiors, and wind energy.

Developing a Sustainability Strategy

In addition to creating innovative and valuable products, JM is also dedicated to embracing sustainability in order to build remarkable experiences and relationships with its employees, customers, and stakeholders. JM entrusted Domoto Brands with creating their first-ever sustainability report and continues to rely on Domoto to help with communicating their sustainability commitment and performance.

Each sustainability report is an ambitious undertaking utilizing Domoto Brands’ vertically integrated sustainability reporting process from start to finish, including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidance, report content development, and report design services. Each JM Sustainability Report has adhered to GRI Guidelines and is informed by a thorough materiality assessment process. It became a tradition, to launch the sustainability reports on the first day of the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder Meeting.

JM entrusted Domoto Brands with creating their first-ever sustainability report and continues to rely on Domoto to help with communicating their sustainability commitment and performance.

The double materiality assessment process conducted by Domoto ensures that JM set sustainability strategies that address the issues and challenges of highest priority and concern for its internal and external stakeholders. This step is becoming mandatory for many S&P 500 company sustainability disclosures.

In 2022, Domoto launched JM’s Sustainability Showcase to build engagement and transparency with stakeholders on sustainability topics. By facilitating more frequent content sharing around JM’s sustainability activities and initiatives, Domoto is helping to increase stakeholder engagement and building a two-way communication process with external parties.

As the global community focuses more deeply on reaching a net-zero future, companies are asked to be more transparent in their disclosures. The sustainability channel is one way that JM is staying compliant with such requests.
